City of Lexington Hires New City Manager

CITY OF LEXINGTON HIRES NEW CITY MANAGER

City of Lexington, VA--The Mayor and City Council of the City of Lexington are pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Tom Carroll as its new city manager.  Mr. Carroll joins the City with over 20 years of municipal leadership experience having served as city manager in Loveland, Ohio as well as village manager in Silverton, Ohio.  Mr. Carroll currently serves as city manager in Cambridge, Maryland. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Virginia as well as two master’s degrees from Indiana University in the areas of sociology and public affairs. 

Mr. Carroll is a credentialed manager with the International City/County Management Association.  Additionally, he’s also a member of the National Academy of Public Administration, a non-profit organization that works with Congress, federal agencies, as well as state and local governments on issues of importance. 

Mr. Carroll succeeds Mr. Jim Halasz, who is retiring from the City on May 1st of this year. When asked about this new chapter in his career, Mr. Carroll said, “I am so looking forward to joining the City of Lexington team. I am very impressed with the leadership of the Mayor and Council and the professionalism of the department heads I met. Being provided this opportunity to serve Lexington is my greatest professional honor, and I can't wait to get started in a few weeks."

Mayor Frank W Friedman said, "Tom is a consummate professional with terrific experience.  We were fortunate to attract several quality candidates for Councils' consideration.  City Council and I look forward to welcoming Tom and Katie to Lexington to serve our neighbors and lead us to greater success in our beautiful community."

Mr. Carroll will assume his new role with the City on or about June 1st
