Who can vote by absentee ballot?

Citizens who will be absent from Lexington City on Election Day, or who are unable to go to the polls, may apply to have an absentee ballot mailed to them or may vote absentee in-person at the Lexington City's Voter Registrar Office. Effective July 1, 2020, Virginia State law permits voters to vote no-excuse absentee. Because of COVID, all registered voters are encouraged to vote by-mail.

How do I vote absentee ballot?

You will receive specific instructions with your ballot. In the presence of a witness, open the ballot envelope and vote the ballot, seal your voted ballot in the envelope provided, and complete all information on the ballot envelope. You and your witness must sign the sealed ballot envelope. You may deliver your voted ballot in person, or mail it to the Director of Elections using the pre-addressed envelope provided. In order to be counted, your ballot must be received by the Director of Elections no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Can I vote absentee ballot in person?

Yes, you may vote absentee in-person beginning approximately 45 days prior to each election in the Voter Registrar's office located in the locality where you are registered to vote. What do I do if I am currently living abroad?

All U.S. citizens are entitled to vote in federal elections (the offices of President and Vice President, U.S. Senate, and the U.S. House of Representatives). If you are an active duty member of the uniformed services, OR if you are regularly employed abroad but maintain a permanent domiciliary address in Virginia to which you plan to return in the future, you and any dependents residing with you are eligible to receive a full ballot, including all federal, state and local offices and issues. 

If you are a US citizen and no longer have a domiciliary address in Virginia, and you are not a member of the uniformed services or a dependent of a member, you are still eligible for a federal ballot.
